The copyright is a form of the intellectual property rights (IPR) that are an end product of the spiritual activity of human being and create a value in property.  In order to protect a creator’s right and interest resulting from his or her own creation from being infringed, the government sets up IPR system by legal operation.  The copyright, a tool under law, protects all rights and interests incurred from any creations (or works), and it contains the Moral Right and the Economic Right.

Term of Protection for Economic Rights
Except as otherwise provided in the Copyright Act, economic rights endure for the life of the author and fifty years after the author′s death. 
Economic rights in works authored by a juristic person endure for fifty years after the public release of the work.

 

The purpose to register copyright is to have a public record about the date and content of the work, that will be valuable in the event of litigation, infringement case, or plagiarism.

The registration is conducted through Taiwan Development & Research Academia of Economic & Technology, non-profit national public welfare foundation, which is supported by the government with a purpose to echo national development policy, to promote research on economic and technological issues, and to cultivate research talents for economic and technological development.

As the copyright occurs at the completion of works, the registration of copyright only undergoes Formality Examination to check whether the required information are fulfilled.
